Founded in 1976, the Layo Teraga Cooperative provides market access for its 1,841 smallholder members—access that previously did not exist in Guji, where coffee prices have historically been lower than in the neighboring Gedeo and Sidama zones due to this very lack of access. Located in northern Uraga, within the Guji zone, members grow coffee in gardens surrounding their homes, nestled in semi-forested environments at staggering elevations of up to 2,342 meters.
